Eligibility

Q - What are the rules on eligibility?

A - These can be found in the ACCA, but basically a student must be academically eligible, may not have already graduated from a high school, be under the age of 19 when their senior year starts, have only 8 consecutive semesters to play sports once they start high school, and carry a minimum of 5 academic classes per semester.

Q - What are the rules on academic eligibility?

A - Eligibility is based on the preceding QUARTER grades only.  At Hopkinton, students may have no more than one quarter grade below a 70 (this should be noted by an NCC on a report card, and looked at to make sure that the NCC is not simply the result of competencies owed).  If a student has more than one NCC, they are ineligible until either the next quarter closes, at which time those quarter grades will be evaluated for eligibility, OR if grades are made up within a two-week period and a teacher changes a grade to a passing grade.

Q - Can quarter grades be changed?

A - If work is made up, incompletes are changed to number grades.  If this grade is changed to above a 70 it becomes a passing grade for a quarter and again grades are reviewed to make certain that no more than one quarter grade is below a 70 or Incomplete.

Q - Can I practice with the team and attend games while I am ineligible and making up work?

A - As long as there is evidence that you are making up work, you may still practice with the team.  However, you may not leave school early to attend any scrimmages, games, or events; use that time to continue to work on your schoolwork!
